SEXING SKELETONS COMING TO NYC
Morbid pervs rejoice! If NYC’s Museum of Sex wasn’t deathly enough for you, it will be on Oct 5 with the arrival of a merrily fucking bunch of life-size skeletons by French sculptor Jean-Marc Laroche. Crafted from bone-like varnished resin and affixed with steel joints, the Lovers from the Hereafter series features couples busting imaginary genitalia at each other’s hollow pelvic crevices until their jaws hinge-flap sideways, like ahhh, that’s good skeleton lovin.’
Zombin Laden is a Grindhouse-style fake trailer some French kids shot in four days, complete with a kitschy bloody gore, a cute French chick, a zombie Osama and awkward cultural insensitivities, like ham defense. Read more »
Have you heard about Vibe? It’s a Twitter clone capable of discrete communication between users without the need to log in and has attracted attention recently due to its popularity amongst Occupy Wall Street protesters. The app, billed as an “Anarchist Twitter,” is available for both iPhone and Android. It emphasizes anonymity and has become the communication weapon of choice for activists in the field. Think of it as the antithesis of social media snitch platform Foursquare.
For decades, adorable little couple Herb and Dorothy Vogel compulsively collected mostly post-minimalist art, piling and stacking the loot in their small New York City one bedroom apartment. After years of hoarding, they gave away 2,500 works — fifty to a museum in each state. Read more »
ANIMAL is happy to report that public artist Leon Reid IV has finally received permission from the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation to dress up the Union Square Park’s statue of George Washington as Tourist-In-Chief, blinged out in oversized props of mock tourist regalia. It’s been a long, long fight, but art fun has triumphed over snooty bureaucracy. Part of the Art In Odd Places festival, the work will be on view this Saturday, 8am to 7pm. Hurray!
